There are numerous other international sites with similar complaints on the ADT business model and their contract documents. A word of warning  Like any contract, the ADT contract means what it says -- and only what it says. Nothing your salesman tells you means anything. Verbal promises are meaningless.

Therefore, read the contract fully before you sign it. Understand what you're getting into -- a multi-year contract that obligates you to pay whether the system works or not, whether your phone line works or not, whether you have a job or not.It's a lot easier to be safe than sorry. Read it thoroughly. If you don't understand it, don't sign it until you find a disinterested third party, preferably a lawyer or paralegal, who can read it and explain it to you. Otherwise, you'll end up like the complainants whose tales appear in this section.

  1. Looks like I'm the first to post, lets get the word out there people!

    I requested ADT to monitor my business as they were doing the neighbour,thinking it would make it easier. I had seen their blue stickers up and down the street and thought big must be good. The salesman came around and wrote down my afterhours contacts and password on a form and asked me to sign it. However a year later I moved into another premises already monitored and cancelled the ADT service. I then received a bill for $792 (cancellation fee). Apon enquiry I was told I was locked into a 36 month contract and I had to pay. Nothing was ever said or implied by the salesperson - so I was more or less duped by them. Yeah I probably should have read the 5 pages of small print but I would have expected the salesman to inform me of just what I was signing up for? Anyone else been in a simialar situation? If so, how did you go about it or did you simply pay the $800 or so cancellation fee?
